Snap, Crackle, Pop - Are your Gears Slipping ?

“Time to Get in Gear…”

When you turn your neck or twist your back does your spine snap, grind and ratchet like a bicycle chain stuck in mid gear? That grating noise could mean something's out of alignment.
Your spine is made up of movable bones called vertebrae, each joined perfectly together like the links of a bicycle chain. If one or more of these joints become stuck and misaligned it can slowly wreak havoc on the mechanical integrity of your entire spine. The result – pain, stiffness and premature arthritic changes.
Don't neglect the noises. Abnormal grinding (crepitus) of spinal joints may indicate early degenerative joint disease. Remember, unlike a bicycle chain, you can't replace spinal 'links' when they get damaged. Get your spine tuned up by a Chiropractor who is thoroughly trained in restoring the normal mechanics of your spine, and protect yourself from premature wear and tear.

“Symptomatic Whack-a-Mole”

The object of the carnival game Whack-a-Mole is to use a mallet to hit as many critters as possible when they pop up in random succession. Trouble is, as you hit one mole, three more pop up and disappear before you can nail them all. Whack-a-Mole is a perfect metaphor for how people are medicated today. Unfortunately in this game you end up on a ton of drugs, for a bunch of problems, with no actual improvement in your health.

According to a NCHS Data brief by the CDC, over the last 10 years the percentage of Americans who took at least one prescription drug in the past month increased from 44% to 48%. The use of two or more drugs increased from 25% to 31%. The use of five or more drugs increased from 6% to 11%. Yet despite taking all these drugs, the US embarrassingly ranks 37th among the world's industrial countries when it comes overall health.

For Chiropractors, health is not defined by how many symptoms you can temporarily 'whack away' with drugs, but how well your body can adapt to its environment and heal under its own innate abilities.

You have more healing intelligence in your little finger than all the doctors and pharmacies in the world put together. Big Pharma doesn't believe so, but Chiropractors do. Keep your Nerve System clear and you won’t have to play their failing game.

How Bumpy is Your Wellness Wheel ???

When I was young and free and

my imagination had no limits,

I dreamed of changing the world;

As I grew older and wiser I realized

the world would not change.

And I decided to shorten my sights somewhat

and change only my country.

But it too seemed immovable.

As I entered my twilight years,

in one last desperate attempt,

I sought to change only my family, those closest to me,

But alas, they would have none of it.

And now here I lie on my death bed

and realize (perhaps for the first time)

That if only I’d changed myself first, then by example

I may have influenced my family

and with their encouragement and support

I may have bettered my country, and

Who knows I may have changed the world.

Written By an Anglican Bishop

With the center of the spoke as zero and the outside edge 100%, gauge where you are at in each area of your life. Then connect the dots. Are you rolling along in life, or is it a bumpy ride??

When we look to make changes in ourselves, it can be difficult to know where to begin. Sometimes we put a disproportionate amount of energy into one area of the wheel, then, al-though that area may improve, it throws the other areas of our lives out of balance. For exam-ple, we’ve all heard of the successful executive who worked his way to the top of his field, only to find that he’d lost his family in the process. The key is to work on the out of balance areas, while still maintaining those areas where we’re doing well. Then, once we’re in fairly smooth bal-ance, taking small steps to improve each area will allow us to expand our wheel and travel farther and faster on the road of life.

This example shows us why continuing Chiropractic care is vital to health and wellness. Chi-ropractic can have a positive impact on all areas of our life, because of the far reaching affects of the nerve system. Once we’ve done the initial work to correct the subluxations, we can’t just ignore this important area of our life. People will sometimes ask, "When am I done?" As long as we live in a world where we’re subjected to physical, chemical and emotional stresses, we’ll de-velop subluxations. When subluxations are present we’re expressing less of our potential for life and health, regardless of whether or not we have symptoms. By the time we wait for symptoms to develop, our wheel has a major imbalance and we’re running on a flat tire. Regular Chiroprac-tic care allows our body and our life to express at its fullest potential.

Develop goals for each area of the wheel and begin to take steps to balance yourself out. If you keep at it regularly, you’ll be amazed at the positive changes you’ll experience.

Chiropractic Care Increases Self Perceptions Of Quality Of Life

A study in the May 15, 2009 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research finds that workers in high stress situations benefited greatly from a short course of chiropractic care.

The study is a follow up to a pilot (test) study in 2007 regarding the effects of chiropractic care on public safety personnel such as city, county and state police, firefighters, 911 operators and public safety administrators who perform their duties under high stress. The 2007 study found there was enough benefit to the personnel that a larger study was warranted.

In the latest study, 32 participants, male and female, completed a little more than 5 months of chiropractic care. At the beginning of the study, in addition to a full chiropractic examination, the participants filled out a Health Related Quality of Life questionnaire (HRQL).

The questionnaire measured how a participant perceived six different domains of their health including: Physical State, Mental/Emotional State, Stress Evaluation, Life Enjoyment, Overall Quality of Life, and a "Combined Wellness" assessment that represented a sum of all other domains. The participants also completed the questionnaire after eight and 16 visits.

22 of the 32 (69%) participants reported significant improvements in their HRQL scores. The remaining 10 (31%) reported no or negative change. All 32 (100%) showed significant improvements in their physiological/neurological chiropractic findings.

Interestingly, at the beginning of the study, the group that reported no changes in their HRQL scores had higher average scores than the group that reported significant change. This indicates they began the study with a higher level of perceived health and because of this didn't report a change for the better. They felt fine already even though their physical/neurological findings were not significantly better than the group reporting change.

Commentary: The authors point out that the hypothesis in the follow up study was the same as it was in the pilot study. "That is, chiropractic care will provide demonstrable positive benefits in regard to physical/neurological state as well as self perceptions of improved health related quality of life and wellness domains among public safety personnel."

Critics may argue that this test only proves that chiropractic care improves a person's self perception of their quality of life, that is, it only makes a person think they feel better. If there were no improvements in their physiological/neurological chiropractic findings we might agree. But, we feel the fact that 100% of the participants showed improvement in objectively measured physiological/neurological chiropractic findings represents a pretty good correlation between functioning better and feeling better. In other words, get your body working better and all kinds of good things start to happen.

Are you blowing your fuses ?

The purpose of the fuse box in our house, our car or any other equipment or structure with electricity is to prevent an overload of the system. If there’s more demand on an area than the system can handle, the fuse is tripped and shut down before a bigger problem occurs. The same thing happens in our body.

Our spine and nerve system operate much like a fuse box. When there is an overload to the system (to our body), the fuse is tripped and subluxation occurs, altering nerve flow to an area. This is a protective mechanism the body has developed, however, if the cause of the problem isn’t detected and the switch isn’t thrown back into the proper position, the power stays shut down.

What causes the overload that blows the circuits? What causes subluxation?

Subluxations are caused by physical, chemical and mental/emotional stresses that our bodies can’t adapt to.

Physical stresses are the easiest to understand. An accident, a fall, a blow to the body can all cause an overwhelming stress and subluxation. Occupational stresses (the way we do what we do) also cause subluxation. If you’re consistently in one position for an extended period of time or if you use your body in an imbalanced way over and over again, you’ll cause an imbalance in the muscles which can cause or contribute to subluxation. Postural stresses are another major factor in subluxation.

Chemical stresses cause more overload than we realize. The quality of the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe, all contribute to the state of our health. Toxins in our food, water and air overload our system and cause imbalances in the nerve system and the muscles which cause and contribute to subluxation.
All drugs have some toxic effect on the body, so although they may achieve their intended result, they also create additional imbalance in the body.

Mental/emotional stresses also change our body physiology and cause or contribute to subluxation. Research tells us that when we are in a situation we perceive as dangerous, certain changes occur in our body—our breathing changes, our muscles tense, our heart rate changes, certain hormones are released. Unfortunately, the body goes through almost the same physiological changes if we are in an actual life threatening situation or if we are just imagining bad things happening to us. If we live in this "stressed out" state long enough, we overload the system.

In this day and age there are many things which overload our fuse boxes and cause subluxations in our body. Thankfully, we can reduce or eliminate this problem with regular chiropractic care. Getting adjusted on a regular basis not only throws the switches back in place when they’ve been blown, it helps our body become stronger and more resilient so the switches don’t get blown as easily in the first place.

if you wear out your body, where are you going to live ?

If you wear out your car, You can get a new one..
If you wear out your teeth, You can replace them..
But,if you wear out your body, where are you going to live ?

Life requires care and maintenance. That’s an unavoidable fact. Even those “replaceable” items in our life, need to be cared for, if we don’t want to replace them before their time. We have our car’s motor tuned, oil changed, tyres rotated, alignment checked and all the other things which will ensure the vehicle is as safe as possible and lasts as long as it can.

With our teeth, we brush, floss, have regular checkups and generally do what we can to keep our teeth in as good condition as possible. Even if teeth are replaceable, who wants dentures if they can be avoided.

When it comes to our bodies, a little prevention goes a long way. In this day of incredible advances in medical technologies, it may seem that we do have a replaceable body. Joint replacements and organ transplants are becoming more and more commonplace , yet they are still something to be avoided; will always carry risk; and will never be as good as the
original.

It all comes back to the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” For us to get the most out of our bodies, we have to take care of them, preferably before they break down.

Chiropractors have traditionally concerned themselves with prevention and wellness. Since this is the approach which pays the most dividends.

Correcting subluxations as they occur, (from the physical, chemical and emotional stresses we’re subjected to) results in the least damage to our body and health and gives us the greatest possibility to express our full potential for health and life.

This approach is very different from what we’ve been taught about our health in the past. We’ve mostly been trained in a crisis care mode. This means we ignore our health and our bodies until they yell at us. This approach gets us increasing and ever more invasive interventions, until “all that can be done”, has been done and we’re left with a failing body.

Instead, keep caring for and maintaining your body and health while you have it, with regular chiropractic checkups and adjustments when necessary. Also look at other aspects of your life and see where you can make even minor improvements in the way you eat, how you exercise, what you do to release stress and get connected to the power within yourself.

Doctors Still Give Antibiotics For Ear Infections Despite Latest Guidelines

Doctors Still Give Antibiotics For Ear Infections Despite Guidelines

In Touch Education Services

A study presented at the December 2011 clinical meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists finds that doctors are still prescribing antibiotics for ear infections despite guidelines to the contrary.

The 2004 guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians on the management of acute otitis media have not appreciably altered doctors' antibiotic prescribing habits.

Margaret L. Hitzeman, who is a PharmD candidate, and Donald G. Klepser, PhD, both from the University of Nebraska in Omaha say that before the guidelines were issued in 2004, 87% of physician visits for acute otitis media resulted in an antibiotic prescription being written.

The percentage dropped to 84% between 2004 and 2006, but fell back to 88% in 2007 and 2008.

"The guidelines recommended a watch-and-wait approach for 72 hours before offering antibiotic treatment, but go ahead and treat for pain with agents such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If the patient remains febrile, then begin high-dose amoxicillin," Hitzeman explained.

"Since the guidelines came out, a number of opinion papers have pointed out that physicians are uncomfortable not prescribing antibiotics for acute otitis media, and there is also considerable patient demand," she said.

"It will be interesting to see when the next set of guidelines is published if they stick with the initial watch-and-wait approach [because] physicians don't seem to be willing to follow the recommendation," she added.

Ear Infections In A Nine-Month-Old Resolve Under Chiropractic Care

In Touch Education Services

The June 21, 2010 issue of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health -- Chiropractic reports on the case of a nine-month-old boy who experienced resolution of his recurring ear infections (otitis media) in a very short time after beginning chiropractic care.

His mother brought him to the chiropractor complaining that he had recurring ear infections every three weeks and his medical doctor was talking about the possibility of inserting ear tubes in his ears along with the antibiotics and antihistamines he was being given.

He was born via caesarian section and had no other history of head first falls. His mother stated that his ear infections began at four months of age after receiving his vaccinations. The mother took no medications during pregnancy and didn't smoke or drink alcohol. The boy was breastfed for the first three months, formula for the next three months and began solid food at six months. No cow's milk has been given to the child and there were no reported food or juice allergies or intolerances.

His initial chiropractic examination consisted of spinal thermal scans that assess skin temperature differences on either side of the spine. While equal readings are expected, unequal readings indicate areas of spinal involvement. This patient's exam revealed he had spinal subluxations in the cervical, thoracic and sacral areas of the spine as well as slight torticollis of the neck. He was placed on a program of three visits per week with an assessment every visit.

After his first adjustment, he did not sleep well that night and returned the next day for a follow-up visit and another adjustment. Two days later, his mother said he was doing better and had "slept great." He was adjusted again and sent home.

The following week, his mother reported he was not sleeping well and pulling at his right ear. Both ears were examined and were clear of fluid. He was adjusted that day and twice more that same week.

During the third week of care he was again checked and adjusted three times and by the end of the week was doing better and no longer pulling on his ears.

He was re-examined during the fifth week of care. His mother reported that he had not had any ear infections since beginning his care program and that he was taking longer naps and getting better quality sleep.

During his seventh week of care, he was re-evaluated by his ENT doctor. His ears were clear of fluid with no need for eartubes. He was no longer on the antihistamines and there was no more need for antibiotics.

His chiropractic care continues at a once per week schedule. Follow-up thermal scans reveal a persistent problem in the upper neck that is still being monitored.

Commentary: The authors list several facts supported by references presented in the study. "The most frequent reason for physician visits for children in the United States, under the age of fifteen is otitis media. Acute otitis media is the most common infection for which antibacterial agents are prescribed for children in the United States. In 1990 there were more than 20 million prescriptions for otitis media-related antibacterials prescribed and 25 million visits made to office-based physicians in the United States for this condition. Approximately 10% of infants by 3 months of age will have had an episode of acute otitis media. 50% of children by 3 years of age will have had more than three episodes of acute otitis media. The annual costs associated with the management of pediatric otitis media has been estimated at $5.3 billion.

How much pain and aggravation could be avoided (not to mention money saved) if every child, those with ear infections or not, were checked for spinal subluxations by a chiropractor as soon after birth as possible? Have you had your children checked? It's the best way to ensure they will have every chance to live a healthy life.

Keep the channel OPEN

Australia’s “drug problem” involves more than just our youth. We’re a society who has been taught that there’s a “pill for every ill”. Yet, recent headlines have shaken the public’s confidence in this belief. Vioxx, Celebrex, and Aleve have been implicated in an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Hormone replacement therapy has been associated with increased cancer risk. Adderal, a drug for ADHD was linked to over 20 deaths in children. Ritalin and other drugs for ADHD may cause long term chromosomal damage which could increase cancer risk. Widespread overuse of antibiotics has been linked to immune deficiencies, asthma and allergies as well as causing resistant bacteria, such as MRSA. Aspirin kills over 16,000 people per year due to gastrointesti-nal side effects. A huge increase in autism in recent years has been traced to mercury in vaccines. Over 108,000 people per year die as a result of taking properly prescribed medications. Even more die from drug errors.

What do we do? Whom do we trust? The true heart of the problem is that we have been taught to look out-side for the answers to our problems. Our current model of healthcare says that when there’s a problem we need to take something or do something to alter the body, make the symptoms go away and bring things back to “normal”.

The problem with this line of thinking is that it never addresses the underlying cause of an imbalance or symp-tom. Our bodies are smart. They have an inner wisdom, an inner intelligence which knows exactly what we need to keep functioning at our best. Modern science understands only a tiny percentage of how our body really func-tions. So, when we go in and alter the body with very powerful chemicals, no one really know the full implica-tions of what we’re doing to the body. Medicine is an art. Studies that are done assess how a percentage of peo-ple will respond to a certain chemical. No one can predict with complete accuracy how you will respond to any drug. Plus, as soon as a person is taking more than one drug they are well beyond the realm of knowledge, since few studies are done to test drugs interactions with each other.

This is not to say that there is never a place for drugs. However, we really have to use them as a very last line of defense. Because, all drugs have side effects and no drug can return the body to a state of optimal health. They can merely help you survive at the lowered level of health you already have, while also contributing to fur-ther levels of lowered health.

The best way to avoid the dangerous effects of drugs is to stay as healthy as possible. A healthy body has no need of drugs in the first place. Keep your spine and nerve system working at their optimum. Have the best diet possible and supplement to make up for what you miss. Keep a positive mental attitude and a good spiritual con-nection. Exercise regularly. Look for the underlying cause of imbalances, rather than just covering up the symp-tom. Learn to trust the wisdom of the body first. After all, it’s gotten you this far.

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action.

And, because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique .

If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium & will be lost.

The world will not have it.

It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares to other expressions.

It is your business to keep the channel open.

You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.

You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that activate you.

Keep the channel OPEN.

Truth Creates Health, Excuses Destroy it!

Today I Wish You

Today, I wish you a day of ordinary miracles….

A fresh pot of coffee you didn’t have to make yourself.

An unexpected phone call from an old friend.

Green stoplights on your way to work or shop.

I wish you a day of little things to rejoice in….

The fastest line at the grocery store,

A good sing-along song on the radio,

Your keys right where you look.

I wish you a day of happiness and perfection…

Little bite size pieces of perfection

that give you the funny feeling that

the Lord is smiling on you, holding you so gently

because you are someone special and rare.

I wish you a day of peace, happiness and joy.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person,

An hour to appreciate them, a day to love them,

But an entire life to forget them.

Share the happiness, joy, miracles, rejoicing, peace

And perfection you discover today with the

Special people in your life.

Truth Creates Health, Excuses Destroy it!

If we want to create the utmost health that we can, we have to learn to be honest with ourselves. Let’s look at some of the common excuses people tell themselves and the consequences to health that results.

Excuse: I feel good, there’s nothing obviously “wrong” with me, so I don’t have to worry about my health.

Truth: Waiting for symptoms to show up before we take care of our health is like waiting for the collection letters to come before you pay your bills. We need do positive things to benefit our health on a regular basis in order for our body to work its best.

Excuse: I don’t have time to do the things necessary to take care of my health (eg get adjusted regularly, exercise, stretch, eat healthfully, have down time, etc).

Truth: We have time for what is important to us. If you’re finding it difficult to make time for your health, this means that for now it’s not as important to you as other things.

Life gets busy and priorities change. For most of us, when we don’t have time to take care of ourselves, it’s because we’re busy taking care of other people (kids, parents, spouses) or other commitments (work, school, civic organizations, etc). The problem with this is that if we’re not caring for ourselves regularly, we will find that we have less and less to give to these other things. Remember… Ignore your health and it will go away.

Excuse: I’ve tried Chiropractic, healthy eating, an exercise program, etc. It didn’t work for me.

Truth: In our society, we’ve been programmed for instant results. If we try something and it doesn’t immediately give us the results we expect, we often move on or give up. Yet,

true healing takes time. Most problems (whether it’s spinal or health related complaints, overweight or out of shape muscles), have developed over time. It takes time and the right conditions for healing and improvement to occur. Also, many problems have a few components to their solution. You might need to get adjusted, improve your nutrition and begin to move your body more in order to get the maximal improvement. Add in only one component and it may seem ineffective. Anything you do for your health will benefit your body in the long run.

Excuse: My kids don’t like getting adjusted and it’s just not worth the hassle to bring them in.

Truth: There’s a lot of things kids don’t enjoy— like homework, brushing their teeth and bed time. Yet, as parents, we know these things are important and we see to it that they happen. The same with getting adjusted and other good health habits. If we really understand how devastating subluxation is to our children’s overall health and their future potential, there’s no way we would let them stay subluxated.

THE TRUTH IS THAT TAKING  CARE OF OURSELVES CAN BE

DIFFICULT, TIME CONSUMING AND EVEN, AT TIMES, PAINFUL.

YET,  IT’S AN INVESTMENT  WHICH ALWAYS PAYS GREAT

DIVIDENDS IN THE LONG RUN.

The Starfish

A young man from Nebraska, who had never seen the ocean, decided one night that it was time to do it. He packed a bag, went to the airport and flew to a tropical island where he checked into a hotel on the beach. It was still dark when he arrived and the young man remembered that someone had told him that the sunrise over the ocean was incredible so he dressed and went down to the beach and sat in the sand, waiting for the sun to rise.

The sun came up and it was, in fact, the most beautiful sunrise he had ever seen. As he watched the sun rising over the ocean, he noticed a group of people following a man who was dancing down the beach. He rose from the sand and went to join the group to see what was going on.

As he joined the group he saw that the man was not actually dancing but was picking something up from the sand and throwing it into the ocean, but with so much joy and enthusiasm that it looked as though he was dancing. At a certain point, the crowd dispersed and only the young man from Nebraska and the man throwing starfish remained.

The young man walked up to the man throwing starfish and asked, “Pardon me, what are you doing?” To which the man replied, “Oh, it’s very simple. I walk this 2 mile stretch of beach every morning and pick up the starfish that have washed up during the night and throw them back into the ocean before the sun comes up and kills them.” The young man, somewhat confused said, “Well, I’m from Nebraska and I don’t know much about the ocean, but isn’t there a tide that will simply wash them up again? What does it matter?”

With that the man bent over, picked up another starfish and said, “It will matter to this one.” as he threw it into the ocean.

Each One Matters

Sometimes we can look at our health the way the man from Nebraska looked at the starfish on the beach. The little things we do for our health may seem inconsequential. What difference does one healthy meal, one day without a cigarette, one good long walk, or one adjustment make? By itself, maybe not much, but when we make a habit or commitment to better health, the results speak for themselves. Each thing we do to enhance our level of health and well being is a statement to ourselves that we are important; that we are worth taking care of; that we matter and that what we do matters to bring us where we want to be in the future. So, although healthy habits take time, effort and repetition, they are worth it for both our current and long-term health.

The number of starfish the “dancer” had to deal with was huge. Sometimes, the number of different things we feel we could or should be doing for our health appears just as daunting.

How will we fit in 3—5 workouts per week? What exercise is best—cardio, weights, stretching or some combination? What exactly is a healthy diet? Is Atkins right about low carbs or is it Pritikin”s low fat plan that’s right? If I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, but they’re not organic can I be hurting myself? What vitamins should I take and where’s the best place to get them from? These and endless other questions keep some people from acting at all.

The best way to tackle the huge question of our health is to just get in action and be proud of ourselves for each thing we do. By just changing one thing at a time on a regular basis, at the end of a year, we will have done so much more for our health. It’s also important that when we add other healthful habits, we don’t drop the ones we’ve already started.

That’s why it’s so important to keep regular with our adjustments. EACH ONE MATTERS!!!!! The effects of the adjustments are cumulative, meaning that each one will just enhance the one before, assuming that there’s not too much time, stress and additional subluxation between adjustments. Thus, in the early stage of care, when visits are frequent, keeping close to your recommended schedule will give you the greatest change in the least amount of time. Once the subluxation patterns in your spine have begun to improve, regular visits will allow this improvement to continue into the future.

Regular adjustments are also a great buffer against the waves of stress which we are bombarded with daily and which can serve to undermine our best efforts at better health.

You can be a “starfish dancer” for someone else by helping them to understand and experience the great benefits Chiropractic care offers. By your own commitment to getting adjusted, you already serve as a positive role model, but there’s more you can do:

Be the One that Matters

1. Refer someone to our New Patient workshop, so they can learn all about the great benefits of Chiropractic.

2. Bring someone along for your visit, so they can see for themselves what the office and getting adjusted is like.

3. Share this hand out, or some of our other literature with friends or family so they can understand better.

4. Give us their name and number and we’ll invite them to the office for a complimentary Chiropractic evaluation, to see how they can be helped.

Small Things are Large

A slip on the sidewalk, in winter is a small thing. It happens to millions. A fall off a ladder, in summer, is a small thing. This happens to millions. The slip or the fall subluxates the vertebrae. That specific subluxation is a small thing. The vertebrae produces pressure upon the spinal cord, with its trillions of fibers. That pressure is a small thing. This specific pressure produces interferences and reduces the flow of life force. That decreased flow is a small thing. That decreased quantity flow of mental impulse produces a specific dis-eased brain or body. That is a big thing to that person. Multiply that person by 40,000 and you shape the physical and mental welfare of a city. Multiply that person by 10 million and you shape the physical and mental welfare of a state. Multiply that person by a 100 million and you forecast and prophesy the mental and physical status of a nation.

So, the slip or fall; the creation of subluxation, consequent pressure, reduced flow of mental impulse and dis-ease is big enough to control the thoughts and actions of a nation.

Now comes another person; and any one person is a small thing. This person gives a specific adjustment upon the specific subluxation; and that adjustment is a small thing. The adjustment releases the subluxation and that is a small thing. The adjusted subluxation releases pressure upon nerves; and that is a small thing. The released pressure restores health to a person, and that is a big thing to that person. Multiply that well person by 40,000 and you step up the physical and mental welfare of a city. Multiply that well person by 10 million and you increase the efficiency of a state. Multiply that well person by 100 million and you produce a healthier, wealthier, better nation.

Man is a small thing, worlds considered. A vertebrae is a small thing, man considered. The neural canal of a vertebrae is small. Yet, the vertebrae, small as it is, acts as a governor to man’s thoughts and functions; for it, in a normal position, permits a free flow, or in a subluxation interferes with a free flow of all that force with which man thinks and acts. A person lives when they can think and act. A person dies when they cease to create thought and perform motion. A person becomes sick when thought and function are below par. Therefore, alignment of the vertebrae and the nerve openings may be a small thing, but they are the biggest thing in that person.

THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE

Living on Earth is expensive,

But it does include a free trip around the sun every year.

How long a minute is

Depends on what side of the bathroom door you’re on.

Birthdays are good for you;

The more you have, the longer you live.

Happiness comes through doors

You didn’t even know you left open.

Ever notice that the people who are late

Are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them?

Most of us go to our grave

With our music still inside of us.

You may be only one person in the world,

But you may also be the world to one person.

Some mistakes are too much fun

To make only once.

Don’t cry because it’s over;

Smile because it happened.

We could learn a lot from crayons:

Some are sharp, some are pretty,

Some are dull, some have weird names,

And all are different colors...but

They all exist very nicely in the same box.

A truly happy person is one who

Can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

The Butterfly

A man found the cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and could go no farther.

So, the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But, it had a swollen body, and small shriveled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly. He expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.

What he had done in his well intentioned kindness and haste, what he did not understand, was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly to its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometime struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been...And we could never fly…

Have a great day, a great life, struggle a

little….Then Fly!!!!!

There are many ways in our life that we’re like the man with the butterfly. We want to help, and think we know a better way to get the end result we want. Yet, by assisting nature, the results often are disastrous.

Nowhere is this attitude more apparent than in children. First, we intervene with the birth process, thinking that it won’t have a negative long term affect.

However, it often does. Birth trauma, resulting from forced births due to doctors on a tight schedule, hospitals’ arbitrary time lines and the myriad of interventions most mothers face is a major cause of subluxation and other problems.

Another area where we sometimes hurt more that help is with “germs”. The recent explosion of anti-bacterial products, over-use of antibiotics in the general population and the wide spread use of antibiotics in the meat and poultry industries has sped bacterial evolution to a point that many bacteria are no longer resistant to common antibiotics. Many more are becoming resistant to the strongest antibiotics science has to offer. When we take antibiotics, we are setting ourselves up to become more and more resistant. Antibiotics also destroy the “normal flora” or good bacteria in our system. These are responsible for helping us digest our food properly. Each time we take a course of antibiotics, it takes 3 months or longer to re-establish normal levels of good bacteria when we actively work to repopulate them (with products like yogurt and acidophilus).

Taking pain pills or muscle relaxers when there is an injury can also backfire.

The body produces spasms as a protective mechanism. When we relax the muscle or cover up the pain response, we may temporarily feel better, but we’re interfering with the protection. We slow or stop healing and then often go out and do more than we would have otherwise. Now, we’re doing things with an injury we can’t feel and less protection than our body wants to give us. This is a recipe for disaster. Plus, remember that when you take any medications, they don’t just affect the injured area. They work throughout any similar tissues in the entire body.

The examples could go on and on. The point is You can’t fool mother nature.

We possess a limited understanding of how the body really works. So, when we try to jury rig a solution or try to hurry along a remedy, we’re inviting trouble.

We may win the battle but lose the war, as nature has her eye on the big picture and we can’t always see it. Our best bet is to do all we can to nurture and protect what we have.

We’ve long had a saying in Chiropractic that Nature needs no help, just no interference. By keeping our spine free of subluxations and thus our nerve system free of interference, our body will be able to best adapt, respond and heal.

Who do you listen to ????

There once was a bunch of tiny frogs, who arranged a running competition.

The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.

A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants…

The race began….

Honestly, no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.

You heard statements such as:

“Oh, WAY too difficult!” “They will NEVER make it to the top.”

Or: “Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!”

The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one…

Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher.

The crowd continued to yell, “It’s too difficult!! No one will make it!”

More tiny frogs got tired and gave up…

But ONE continued higher and higher…

This one wouldn’t give up!

At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower, except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!

THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it.

A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal.

It turned out….that the winner was DEAF!!

The wisdom of this story is:

Never listen to other people’s tendencies to be negative or pessimistic.

They may take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you—the ones you have in your heart.

Always think of the power words have.

Everything you hear and read will affect your actions.

Therefore: ALWAYS BE POSITIVE

And above all: Be DEAF when people tell you that you cannot fulfill your dreams.

Just like the frogs in the previous story, there’s always someone out there telling us what we can and can’t do. Maybe it’s a spouse or family member who is influencing us with their opinion. Maybe we hear our parents in our head. Sometimes it’s societal pressures which can steer our decisions.

Whatever the source, outside opinions can unduly influence us and can sometimes keep us from achieving our potential.

We see this a lot when it comes to people’s health. Other people can often influence us negatively. Think of a person who has decided to clean up their eating habits. When they go visiting or to a party, many people will push food on them or tell them why the plan they’ve made won’t work. This can be discouraging and make a hard job even more difficult.

The most serious example of negative influence comes when a person has a major illness. Countless times people have had their hope taken away from them by a harsh opinion and died shortly afterward, even when their medical condition might not have been that serious. Our thoughts ALWAYS influence our reality. This is why it’s so important to take charge and control our thoughts.

How can we do this? By being proactive and taking charge of our own health. Our bodies are our own responsibility. We have to learn how they respond best and what they need.

One person may do well on a low carb diet, while that type of eating plan may be harmful to another. Certain people benefit from one form of exercise over another. It’s our responsibility to research the options and find what works best for our individual body and our lifestyle.

This is why we spend so much time in this office educating people about Chiropractic, the importance of taking care of the spine and nerve system and about the true nature of health. We find that an educated practice member is truly our best customer. When you understand the devastating impact of subluxation on your health and the outstanding benefits of keeping your body subluxation free, it’s much easier to commit to taking care of yourself. We truly believe that your health is your responsibility, so that when we make recommendations, we honor your decisions about how you choose to care for yourself.

Yet, at times the influence of the crowd can get in the way. Maybe you have a friend or family member who doesn’t understand the true nature of Chiropractic and how the spine functions. Maybe your spouse is a voice in your ear telling you that you don’t need to be adjusted regularly. Maybe you are afraid to talk to your physician about the fact that you’ve benefited from your care. Whatever the negative influence, remember what you know is possible for you. If someone hasn’t yet come in, seen the exam process and experienced a chiropractic orientation, they really don’t know as much as you do about this subject. We’ll be happy to educate anyone and help you to be surrounded by positive voices instead of detractors.

With Chiropractic, as with all other areas of your life and health,—tune out the negative and focus on the possibilities!!

If children live with a fear of disease and germs .... they learn to not trust their bodies.

If children live with the belief that it’s not okay to ever feel poorly .... they will misunderstand the role of symptoms in their body and will forever be looking to quiet the symptoms, instead of listening to what the symptoms are telling them and taking care of the cause of the problem.

If children live with a pill or potion for every little ailment .... they learn to turn to drugs to solve life’s problems.

If children live with subluxation ....they will not be able to learn and grow and interact on the same level they would if their body were functioning with no interference.

If children live with a knowledge of true health .... they learn that feeling good and being healthy are not the same thing.

If children live with healthy habits .... they learn to care for their bodies.

If children live with faith in the innate intelligence of their body .... they learn to trust their body .... they learn that they don’t have to fear or cover up every ache, pain or symptom .... they learn that their body is very smart and knows what it’s doing, when it is allowed to function with no interference.

If children live with regular Chiropractic adjustments .... they learn that they have an awesome potential for life and health which can be expressed fully, if there is no interference.

Every day we shape the habits and future health of our children by what we teach them and how we live.

You,Vitalism and Your Healing Potential

Ever think about where life comes from?

Ever thought about the difference between a living body and dead body? They both have the same parts. But what's missing from the dead one?

The Miracle of Life. What took one sperm cell and one egg cell and ended up with you?

Below Donald Glassey discusses vitalism and healing.

"Today the principle of vitalism is based on the holistic concept that the human body is greater than the sum of its parts, while emphasizing the interdependence of the parts and processes. Its basic assumption is that there is an intelligent force which creates and sustains all living organisms, and that this inherent vital principle is distinct from all internal physical and chemical forces.

"Vitalism assumes that life is self-determining and self-evolving. The basic principle of vitalism is that there is an inherent or in-born intelligence within the body, which animates, motivates, heals, coordinates and inspires living beings. This Wisdom Within guides and directs the life of each individual on his or her path of healing to be restored to wholeness in mind, body and spirit.

"Healing is a process of personal evolution, growth, self-development and self-discovery. As a person heals, it brings about a closer connection among mind, body, and spirit. Healing gives the individual the opportunity to see him or herself more clearly, and get more in touch with themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

--- The Vitalistic Healing Model, by Donald Glassey, MSW, DC,LMT,

In Chiropractic we call it Innate Intelligence -the wisdom of the body, that regulates and heals us - our soul, our spirit, our life force. When you get adjusted, the only purpose of the adjustment is to remove any interference to the flow of this life force. For you to express optimal health you need full flow of the mental impulse from your brain to every cell in your body. ADIO - above, down, inside, out. Mental impulse travels from your brain above, down your spinal cord, from the inside -out.

The adjustment removes the subluxation so that you can do the healing. Health comes from within. Not from pills, drugs, and quick fix pain remedies.

Do you want to express your full life force?
