Panadol causes 40% of all Asthma

Two Separate Studies reported in the online edition of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine have suggested a link between asthma and the use of acetaminophen medications such as Tylenol.

In Australia these acetominophen drugs include Panadol, Panamax, Dymedon, Tylenol, Tempra, Paralgin

One study concludes that as many as four out of every 10 cases (40%) of wheezing and severe asthma in teens may be linked to the over the counter medication.

The most shocking finding was that it didn’t take large amounts of the drug. Using the analgesic even once in the prior year was linked to a 43% greater likelihood of current wheezing symptoms, according to Richard Beasley, MBChB, of the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, in Wellington, and his research colleagues.

If acetaminophen was taken once a month or more, the change of having wheezing symptoms was more than doubled. As part of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) Phase Three, a total of 322,959 thirteen-to-fourteen year-olds from 50 different countries completed written and video questionnaires. Researchers compared data on current symptoms of asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema, and a variety of risk factors including acetaminophen use in the past 12 months. Researchers concluded that “acetaminophen use may represent an important risk factor for the development and/or maintenance of asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema in adolescent children.”

The second study, published online on Oct. 8, 2010, by a research team headed by Alemayehu Amberbir, MPH, of Addis Ababa University School of Public Health in Ethiopia, studied 1,066 children born to women living near Butajira, Ethiopia. They found that children who had been given acetaminophen early in life had up to seven times greater chance of developing wheezing. “As the use of acetaminophen preceded the outcomes, a casual explanation is increasingly likely,” Amberbir and colleagues wrote.

How to Solve Nearly Any Illness - Without Drugs

Yaz and Yasmin: Soon after Bayer launched the pill Yaz, 18 year olds started developing blood clots, gall bladder disease, heart attacks and even strokes.

Chantix: After cases of possible psychosis, reports of suicidal behaviors and actual suicides, the government banned pilots, air-traffic controllers and interstate truck and bus drivers from taking this antismoking drug.

Ambien: Law enforcement officials say this sleep drug has increased traffic accidents from people who drive in a black out.

Tamoxifen: For every case of breast cancer prevented by Tamoxifen, there is a life-threatening case of blood clots, stroke or endometrial cancer caused by it.

Lipitor and Crestor: All statins can cause muscle breakdown. Crestor is so linked to the side effect, the FDA's David Graham named it one of the five most dangerous drugs at a Congressional hearing.

Gardasil and Cervarix Vaccines: The Gardasil HPV vaccine doesn't work for all viral strains, requires a booster and is linked to 56 girls' deaths as of September in the U.S. alone.

Singulair and Accolate, leukotriene receptor antagonists: These leukotriene receptor antagonists never looked safe. And Singulair, Merck's top selling drug, is now suspected of producing aggression, hostility, irritability, anxiety, hallucinations and night-terrors in kids.

Alert over birth injury | Herald Sun

Ever wondered when the best time was to get your child checked by a Chiropractor?
NEWBORNS leaving hospital with undiagnosed bone and muscle injuries are a big problem for parents, a pediatric chiropractor says.
RMIT pediatrics lecturer Braden Keil said up to 70 per cent of babies were injured during birth, and while most injuries were minor they could be a problem for parents.
A Northern Territory mother flew to Melbourne this week to see a chiropractor and learned her three-month-old daughter had a fractured collarbone and a dislocated shoulder, allegedly sustained during birth.
Dr Keil said of about 20 babies he saw each week, about half had undiagnosed shoulder problems.
"A collarbone fracture should not be missed in the hospital but quite commonly they are, and . . . parents go home with a baby that screams a lot and they don't know why. "A lot of them are given a diagnosis of reflux and given medication, which is not really appropriate," Dr Keil said.
But Royal Women's Hospital woman's services clinical director Jeremy Oats said fractures and dislocations were rare and had no long-term consequences for infants.
He said doctors and chiropractors had differing opinions about diagnosis and he doubted doctors were missing important health problems.
Dr Oats said shoulder dislocations took place in about one in 1000 births and it took only four weeks for fractured collarbones to heal in a newborn.
A mum from a remote Arnhem Land community, Tracie McQueen, said she was shocked to learn her daughter, Sierra, had had a fractured collarbone and dislocated shoulder after being born in November.
She travelled to Melbourne for treatment because there were no services available near her.
Ms McQueen said she and her husband, Gavin, endured sleepless nights and wondered why Sierra would feed only on one side, struggled to use her right arm, and refused to lie on her right side.
"I tore my hair out by the end of it," Ms McQueen said.
"I thought it was strange, because every time I put her down on that side she started crying, but stopped when I lifted her up.
"If we didn't seek it out there could have been long-term side effects for her, so I am just so glad we came down."
Ms McQueen urged all mothers to demand a thorough check of their babies before leaving hospital and to seek help if their child was unsettled.

13 Tips to Avoid the Common Toxins in our Food

Various shelves throughout every aisle of your grocery store are stocked with wolves in sheep’s clothing. Colorful packaging, appetizing pictures and nutrition claims hide the truth: unhealthy chemicals are lurking in many these seemingly harmless foods. Here are some tips to help you steer clear of hidden toxins that masquerade as safe products.

1. Stay away from processed meats like bacon, hot dogs and sausage. Sodium nitrate accounts for their appetizing red hue, but this additive can also cause the formation of nitrosamines in your system, which can lead to cancer.

2. Stick to low-mercury fish, avoid swordfish or tuna. Overexposure can cause memory problems, fatigue and other health issues, and besides, most wild fish stocks are threatened these days.

3. Reduce the amount of canned food you consume. Cans are commonly lined with bisphenol-A, an organic compound that, according to the Lang study, may be associated with diabetes and heart disease.

4. Cut back on meat and dairy products. These animal products may contain trace amounts of harmful contaminants like polybrominated diphenyl ethers, polychlorinated biphenyl and dioxins. Although many of these toxins have been banned, they are still present in the soil. Reducing your intake of animal products is also more friendly to the environment.

5. Skip the diet soda and artificial sweeteners. Prolonged exposure to aspartame, a neurotoxic chemical additive in these products, can lead to nerve cell damage, dizziness and headaches. Besides, anything that gives rats brain tumors is worth avoiding in my book.

6. Choose the farmed fish carefully. Studies show that farm-raised fish contain more polychlorinated biphenyl and over 10 times the amount of dioxin.

7. Opt for organic chicken. The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy discovered traces of arsenic in non-organic chickens. Exposure to this dangerous chemical can lead to cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Another study also found numerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria in conventional poultry.

8. Only drink organic milk, avoid milk that contains "rBGH” because recombinant bovine growth hormone has been linked with breast cancer.

9. Avoid manufactured snacks. Hydrogenated oils are used to lengthen the shelf life of products like crackers and cookies, but they are also associated with diabetes and heart disease. Another reason to stay away from the middle aisles: snack foods are generally loaded with salt, corn syrup and other unhealthy ingredients.

10. Stay away from artificially-colored foods like candy, maraschino cherries and gelatin. Mice and rats exposed to blue 1 and 2, red 3 and yellow 6 suffered from brain, adrenal gland, thyroid and kidney tumors.

11. Always buy organic produce. This one’s a no-brainer, but the list wouldn’t be complete without it. Lingering pesticides can lead to nervous and reproductive system damage, not to mention cancer.

12. Use stainless steel or ceramic cookware to prepare your meals. The Teflon used to create nonstick surfaces can release noxious gases when exposed to high temperatures, which puts you at risk for heart disease.

13. Never microwave food in plastic bowls, containers or dishes. Exposure to heat causes the bisphenol-A found in plastics to break down and potentially contaminate your food. Also, make sure to hand wash them.

Ways to make 2011 Your Healthiest Year Yet !!!!

1. Improve your diet. Whether it’s a major overhaul or just a slight tweak, improving the quality of what you put into your body will improve the health of your body. Remember, you are what you eat. Cutting back (or out) sugar ,white flour and other processed foods is a good start. Increasing your intake of vegetables and water will reap benefits.

2. Decrease your chemical intake. How much of what you put into your body is artificial? The closer things are to a natural state when we take them in, the better. Cut out or minimize caffeine (even decaffeinated beverages often have harmful chemicals used to take out the caffeine). Cut out or at least decrease diet beverages and food (aspartame/Nutrasweet is a killer). Try to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible, avoiding processed foods when you can.

3. Move more. Whether you start a regular exercise program or just commit to taking the stairs instead of the elevator, start moving. Regular exercise has so many benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health, increased metabolism (that means you can eat more without gaining weight!!), more stamina, more strength, more energy, more flexibility and a better mental attitude, just to name a few. Find one thing you enjoy and just do it!

4. Take time for yourself. With our hectic lives and schedules, too many of us leave no time for ourselves. We’re constantly on overdrive which leaves us in a state of constant stress. Stress hormones in the body are responsible for a host of illness. The more you push yourself, the more trouble you’re setting yourself up for. Take time to be quiet; rest; meditate; pray; go for a leisurely walk; take a nap; take time to smell the roses. Get more sleep. Your sleep time is when your body health and repairs itself.

5. Develop a positive attitude. Happiness is a choice. It’s not the situation which determines how we’ll feel, it’s our response to a situation. Negative pessimistic attitudes also bring with them their own health problems. Our immune function is depressed when we are as well. Take whatever steps you can to create a calm peaceful mind. Forgive yourself and others. Get connected to your Source.

6. Receive regular Chiropractic adjustments. Getting your regular Chiropractic wellness check-up is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family to ensure the maximum expression of life and health possible. Regular adjustments keep your nerve system working its best, thus allowing the immune system, digestive system, hormonal system, respiratory system and every other cell tissue and system to work their best as well. A healthy nerve system is better able to adapt and respond to its environment.
